Usain Bolt wins on return from injury
The world’s fastest man ran 19.89 seconds at the Olympic Stadium he left with three golds four years ago during the London Games. It was Bolt’s first race since pulling out of the Jamaican Olympic trials for Rio earlier this month with a hamstring injury.
There were concerns that the legendary sprinter would miss the upcoming Olympic Games in Brazil.
The 29-year-old was out of the blocks quickly and showed no signs of rust and went on to clock the fifth fastest time this year.
He won ahead of Panamanian Alonso Edward, who clocked a season’s best 20.04 for second and Adam Gemili of Great Britain, who finished third in 20.07, also a season’s best.
Nickel Ashmeade of Jamaica finished eighth in 20.51.
The six-time Olympic champion said: “I’m not fully in shape. I need more work but over time I will be fine.”
Bolt was upstaged at the London meet by Keni Harrison of the United States breaking a 28-year world record in the 100-meters hurdles by running 12.20 seconds.
