Bolt named in Rio 2016 Jamaica squad after submitting medical exemption
Bolt, pulled out of the National Championships at the National Stadium, after running in the heats of the 100 metres, as he also missed the 200 metres.
Since then, he visited his specialist doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in Germany and posted a picture last week of him training at his base at the University of the West Indies.
Bolt was among a number of the island’s top athletes that either failed to show or started participating and then pulled out. All have been included in the provisional list on Monday.
This include 400 metres hurdler Janieve Russell, 110 metres hurdler Hansel Parchment and 200 metres runner Elaine Thompson. They will all have to prove their fitness however, before the final list is submitted to the IOC.
Along with Bolt, Jamaica’s double Olympic 100 metres defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce headline the 63 names that have been submitted for the island’s participation in three different sporting discipline.
A notable absentee is discus thrower Jason Morgan.
According to the JAAA, Morgan threw the qualifying distance last year, but has not done anything close to the required distance since. According to the JAAA, the body had no choice but to exclude him.
