Meet Miss Jamaica World 2015 (Video)
Twenty-four-year-old Sanneta Myrie, a medical doctor who locks her hair, is Miss Jamaica World 2015.
Myrie, who mentors teens in inner-city communities and runs an after-school programme took home the crown, in a hotly contested competition this evening at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.
A crowd favourite, Myrie outpaced 19 other contestants to win the crown.
She will compete in the Miss World competition in China in December.
“As Miss Jamaica World 2015, I hope to break down the stereotype of beauty and inspire young Jamaicans to dare to reach for their brightest dreams regardless of hair, texture, skin colour and social background,” she told The Gleaner.
Royanne DeSilva was first runner up and Roshelle McKinley second runner up.
There was outrage on social media because media personality, Krystal Tomlinson, was not placed in the top five, although she took home three sectional prizes, including the one for the most aware contestant.
