Bolt, Fraser-Pryce headline Jamaica’s World Championships team

Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will lead Jamaica’s medal charge at the August 22-30 World Championships, which will be held in Beijing, China.

Both Bolt and Fraser-Pryce will be defending the 100 and 200 metres that they won two years ago in Moscow, Russia. Bolt will headline the men’s team that comprises 27 members while Fraser-Pryce will lead the 26-member women’s team.

Apart from the individual sprints, both Bolt and Fraser Pryce will be central to Jamaica also defending both the men’s and women’s relay titles. Jamaica won the men’s title at the 2011 Championships in Daegu, South Korea and defended it in 2011 while the women dethroned USA in Russia.

The island’s team to the World Championships was announced by the Jamaica Athletics Administration Association on Monday and will also have 19 officials accompanying the athletes.

The team members are:

Men – Nickel Ashmeade, Kemar Bailey Cole, Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt, Julian Forte, Warren Weir, Peter Matthews, Rusheen McDonald, Javon Francis, Edino Steel, Kemoy Campbell, Omar McCloud, Hansle Parchment, Roxroy Cato, Leaford Green, Annsert Whyte, Damar Forbes, O’Dayne Richards, Fredrick Dacres, Jason Morgan, Chad Wright, Tyquendo Tracey, Rusheed Dwyer, Jonia McDonald, Dane Hyatt, Nesta Carter and Andrew Riley.

Women – Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Natasha Morrison, Sherone Simpson, Elaine Thompson, Christine Day, Shericka Jackson, Stephenie-Ann McPherson, Novlene Williams-Mills, Simoya Campbell, Natoya Goule, Aisha Praught, Kimberly Laing, Danielle Williams, Shermaine Williams, Janieve Russell, Kaliese Spencer, Shevon Stoddard, Ristananna Tracey, Shanieka Thomas, Kimberley Williams, Danniel Thomas, Salcia Slack, Kerron Stewart, Chrisann Gordon and Anastasia Leroy.

Ludlow Watts will lead the officials as head of delegation and will have Dave Myrie and Heleen Francis as his assistants with Maurice Wilson being technical leader and Michael Clarke, head coach.
