From Africa to the Caribbean – 1lOVE CONCERT
“Some ‘o dem, dem no know me,” sings Timaya on his hit track, Sanko.
But after the 1Love concert on August 2, thousands of Barbadians and others in the island for the climax of the 2015 Crop Over Festival will have a much better idea.
In recent years, afrobeats music has been tearing up the charts around the world and Caribbean people have shown much love for the catchy genre.
Timaya is one whose music has found favour with Caribbean audiences, as he creates fusions with soca and dancehall.
‘Sanko’ and ‘Shake Up Your Bum Bum’ are two of his tracks which rock the party across the region. The latter is so popular that it has two remixes – one with Machel Montano and another with Sean Paul.
His inclusion in the lineup for the 1Love concert at Kensington Oval is part of the efforts by organisers, Volume Entertainment Group, to “re-imagine what a cultural presentation can be” and to propel Barbados and the Crop Over Festival onto the world stage.
