Bob Marley Foundation donates over $15M to hospitals

The Robert Marley Foundation handed over $15.4 million dollars worth of much needed medical equipment to the Bustamante Hospital, The Jubliee Hospital, The St. Ann’s Bay Hospital and The Women’s Health Network on May 15.

Held at the former home of the iconic Reggae Legend the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, OM, the press conference was attended by Dr. Andrei Cooke – Chairman of the Board of the South East Regional Health Authority, Ms. Maurine Golding – Regional Director of the South East Regional Health Authority, among others, Executive Director of Women’s Health Network and Medical Link. General Manager of the Bob Marley Group Of Companies Mrs. Marie Bruce brought greetings from CEO Cedella Marley and Ziggy Marley, conceptualizers of the Marley for Health project.

She noted that the Marley family is pleased to honor their father’s legacy, of living again by living for others.

She stated that this initiative stands as a true reflection of Bob Marley’s philosophies. Foundation Relations Manager Ms. Alicia Williams gave an overview of the initiative and announced the donations made to each institution.

The Bustamante Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in the English speaking Caribbean received two Touchscreen Patient Monitors, two Mobile Stands with Baskets, four Aneroid Mobile and Desktop Blood Pressure Units, one Nebulizer, five Handheld Pulse Oximeters & a set of PP1 Chairs.

The Victoria Jubilee Hospital received, five Handheld Pulse Oximeters, four Phototherapy Lamps, five Mobile Aneroid Sphygmomanometers, one Fetal & Maternal Monitor with metallic stand, two Resuscitation Infant Warmers, two Examination Lamps, one fully loaded Ventilator and a set of PP1 Chairs.

The St. Ann’s Bay Hospital received, eight Suction Machines, seven Handheld Pulse Oximeters, six Desktop and Mobile Aneroid Blood Pressure Units, three Mobile Anderoid Sphygmomanometers, nine sets of PP1 Chairs and two cases of Examination Gloves.

The Women’s Health Network Jamaica received one Portable Ultra Sound Machine. Equipment provided to the Bustamante Hospital for Children will benefit patients of the Special Care Nursery, Accident & Emergency, Surgical ward and Medical Wards. Equipment provided to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital will be used on their Male Medical, Male surgical, Female Medical, and Accident & Emergency and out patients department.

The Women’s Health Network and Victoria Jubilee equipment donation will benefit females who access the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.

Dr. Rudolph Stevens of The Women’s Health Network in his reply thanked the Marley Family and the Robert Marley Foundation for the donation of the portable ultra sound machine for the WHN community outreach mission noting “it is the single most important innovative tool in modern times that has been transforming women’s health care, as it brings to the point of care, the diagnosis of many women’s health issues”.
