Jamaica beat USA to win Women’s 4×100 at World Relays (VIDEO)
Jamaica, anchored by Veronica Campbell-Brown, won the Women’s 4×100-metre relay, the final event at the 2015 IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas a short while ago.
The Jamaican won in a world-leading time of 42.14 seconds to easily beat the United States.
Simone Facey, Kerron Stewart and Schillonie Calvert were the other members of Jamaica’s team.
The USA quartet of Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, Kimberlyn Duncan and Carmelita Jeter clocked a season-best 42.32 for the silver medal.
Neither team had the slickest of changeovers, but the Jamaican quartet made the fewest mistakes. After Bartoletta handed over to Felix with Duncan running the third leg, the USA were level with Jamaica as Jeter set out on the anchor leg.
But her leading margin wasn’t enough to hold off the closing speed of two-time Olympic champion Campbell-Brown, who caught Jeter with 50 metres remaining and crossed the line in the fastest time this this year.
USA was half a second ahead of Great Britain (42.84). Canada finished one hundredth behind Great Britain in fourth as three other teams – Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Nigeria – ran faster than 43 seconds.
