Kenyan promotes reggae in Dubai through ‘Beachfest’

Dubai is fast emerging as a hot spot for Jamaican music. Much of this popularity can be credited to Beachfest, a monthly dancehall/reggae event.

First held in 2013, Beachfest is the brainchild of promoter Kenya Don, a Kenyan native who has booked reggae acts for shows in Africa for close to a decade.

On Saturday, deejay Elephant Man will perform on the latest Beachfest which takes place at XL Beach Club’s Dubai Marina.

It is the fourth Beachfest for 2015. Mr Vegas, Diana King and Red Rat have previously done the event.

Kenya Don says dancehall/reggae is increasingly popular in Dubai, the largest territory in the United Arab Emirates.

Fans from Britain, the United States and the Caribbean, who live and work in Dubai, comprise Beachfest’s largest bloc.

Cecile, Junior Gong, Wayne Wonder, Dawn Penn and Tanto Metro and Devonte are among the Jamaican artistes who have performed in Dubai which has a growing expatriate community.
