Bahamian Immigration officer charged with rape of Jamaican, denied bail
The Senior Immigration Officer charged with the rape of a 28 year old Jamaican woman at his house in December in the Bahamas was denied bail when he appeared in court on Thursday afternoon.
Norman Bastian,53, appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes.
It is expected that the matter will proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment which means that a preliminary inquiry will be by-passed and the matter will be fast tracked to the supreme court for trial.
The incident happened when the woman was detained and released after an immigration raid on a bar in Nassau.
It’s alleged the immigration officer then took the Jamaican woman to his house where he raped her before releasing her two days later.
Bastian is expected back to court on February 23.
