Clarendon College dethrones STETHS, wins DaCosta Cup 2014
St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) have never been able to repeat as daCosta Cup champions and this year was no exception; they were beaten 3-0 by a marauding Clarendon College team at the Montego Bay Spots Complex on Saturday.
STETHS won their fourth title last year and advanced to their fourth straight finals this season, but last year’s hold is the only title they have to show for their efforts, losing to the Brian Brown led Rusea’s in 2011 then to Glenmuir High in 2012.
Glenmuir was coached by Jackie Walters two years ago and he returned to inflict more pain on STETHS this year as Xhane Reid scored two brilliant first half strikes, in the 20th and 27th minutes.
The experienced Reid scored from at least 35 yards out to give Clarendon the lead after his shot curled past STETHS goalkeeper Carson Findley.
Miscommunication between Carson and defender Rushane McClymont in the 27th allowed Reid to get between them and shoot into the goal to double Clarendon’s lead.
The tricky Gregton Charlton was brought down in the STETHS penalty area in the 77th minute and Seigel Knight powered home the penalty to put the game out of reach of STETHS.
