Slain Mann was Dudus’ aide?
DETECTIVES probing Wednesday’s brazen daylight murder of a man on the outskirts of New Kingston say they have received new information suggesting that the victim — Collin Mann — was a lieutenant of former Tivoli Gardens don Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
Mann, also called ‘Gummy Bear’, was last year slapped with shooting and gun-related charges stemming from allegations that he fired at police at the Denham Town Police Station in May 2010 when the security forces conducted an operation in Tivoli Gardens to arrest Coke, who was wanted by the United States Government.
He was freed in the High Court Division of the Gun Court by Justice Marjorie Cole-Smith on a no-case submission from his legal team of Tom and Chris Tavares-Finson.
The no-case submission followed the end of the prosecution’s case, which reportedly saw a number of discrepancies being brought out under cross-examination.
Police sources said Mann was also being investigated in relation to the remains of a police officer which were found in an overgrown area behind Tivoli Gardens after the May 2010 operation.
Mann and another person were standing close to an apartment complex on Kensington Crescent Wednesday when three men drove up in a motorcar and shot at them. Mann, the Observer was told, tried to escape but was chased and shot several times.
The other individual, who was injured, was rushed to hospital where he has been admitted.
