World Youth OIympics: Gold for Jamaican Hyde in New World Record Time

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jaheel Hyde set a new World Youth Best 12.96 seconds to win the men’s 110m hurdles gold medal at the 2nd IOC Youth Olympics this morning at the National Stadium in Nanjing, China.

Hyde decimated the field winning by over a half a second as he added the Youth Olympic title to the IAAF World Youth title he won in Ukraine last year as well as the IAAF World Junior Championships 400m gold won in Eugene, Oregon last month.

In becoming the first man to run below the 13.00 seconds barrier, Hyde smashed the two year old record of 13.12 seconds set by France’s Wilhem Belocian and now owns three of the top four times ever run in the event.

This was Jamaica’s second gold of the Youth Olympics as last night Jamaica time Martin Manley won the men’s 400m in 46.31 seconds to add to his World Youth title won last year.

There was some disappointment however as Raheem Chambers was not able to face the starter in the men’s 100m A finals after straining a hamstring in the heats two days ago.
