Ebola scare at Trinidad & Tobago airport

RJR News understands that the health authorities in Trinidad & Tobago were pressed into emergency mode on Thursday evening when they were alerted that a passenger, who had arrived at Piarco International Airport on a flight from London, might have contracted the Ebola virus.

It’s understood that the person in question and the other passengers were placed in isolation, after the Trinidadian authorities were alerted to the possibility that he might have contracted the deadly Ebola virus.

RJR News understands that the initial alert came from the Barbados-based Joint Regional Communications Centre (JRCC) through information provided by the Advanced Passenger Information database.

Later, Dr. Collin Furlonge, the country’s Principal Medical Officer, reportedly told TV6 News that there did not appear to be any significant risk, and that the passenger, a Nigerian doctor, was eventually cleared, because he had not been to Africa in several years. The current Ebola outbreak has been detected in several West  African states.
