Jamaica Could Face Visa Ban Over Slavery Reparations Push

The Reform UK political party has pointed out that it would block visas for nationals of countries pursuing slavery reparations, including Jamaica from Britain if it enters government. The proposal would apply across all visa categories, including work and visitor permits.

Party leader Nigel Farage has backed the stance, while home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf described reparations demands as “insulting” in comments reported by the Daily Telegraph. He argued that millions of visas have already been granted to applicants from nations raising such claims.

The policy emerges against the backdrop of renewed global debate on the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Last month, the United Nations classified the trade as the ‘gravest crime against humanity’ and urged preparatory action.

Britain’s role in the trade saw an estimated three million Africans transported across the Atlantic before abolition in the early 19th century. Calls for reparations have ranged from financial compensation to symbolic recognition.

The position taken by Reform UK aligns with recent remarks from Kemi Badenoch, who stated that Britain should not provide compensation for slavery, because they UK helped to abolish it, further more people from the countries have benefiting from visas over the years.
