Mavado’s teenage son remains behind bars, but is the singer still a wanted man?
Mavado is currently overseas and has been steering clear of Jamaica for the past three months. The dancehall singjay fled Jamaica in June after he was shot at and one another man was killed in what law enforcement said is a reprisal killing. Mavado’s 16-year-old son and a few others were arrested for the crime, but everyone else has been released from jail except the teenager who has since been charged with murder and conspiracy.
The Constant Spring Police later issued a warrant for Mavado to turn himself in or be arrested, but the “So Special” deejay had already fled the island for the United States where he is a legal permanent resident.
Some recent rumors surfaced claiming that Mavado had turned himself in to police in secret, but sources told Urban Islandz that he is still overseas. His son is currently being housed at the Metcalfe Street Secure Juvenile Remand Centre since he is a minor.
The teenager is facing life in prison if convicted for the murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges against him. He was also charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent. The 16-year-old had a court hearing last week Friday where his attorney once again requested bail, but another hearing was set for a future date.
Mavado has remained tight-lipped on his son case and whether or not he will ever return to the island. His attorney has indicated that the singjay is trying to avoid a media spectacle and that’s why he has not yet turned himself in to police. We’re also told that he feared what happened to Vybz Kartel, and Ninjaman could also happen to him, so he is staying away for now.
