Police probe Dancehall Artiste Alkaline

ALKALINE was questioned by lawmen at the Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) headquarters located at the NCB Towers on Oxford Road in St Andrew yesterday.

The session was aimed at determining whether the guns used in the dancehall deejay’s video, After All, were real or props, and the role the uniformed police, who appeared in video, played.

“ACP Elan Powell is leading the investigation in relation to guns,” Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), told Jamaica Observer yesterday. “Alkaline and his manager came in and gave statements. The investigations will continue.”

Alkaline’s lawyer, Peter Champagnie, confirmed that the deejay and his sister/manager, Kareena Beckford, visited the CIB headquarters, however, he was not required to be there.

“It wasn’t one of those investigations that would have necessitated an attorney on his behalf. It was more of an internal investigation,” he said.

Last week, Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake indicated that investigations by senior members of the JCF into the video were under way, on the instruction of Commissioner of Police George Quallo. The commissioner was concerned about the negative way the police were being portrayed.
