Selectors Platinum Kids on the rise
Sibling sound system selectors Platinum Kids continue their upward trend by playing the Sound Fest Vibez In The Park at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York on July 30.
According to Marcus and Paul Gavin, their stocks have risen since topping six rivals to win the US Rumble competition at Amazura nightclub in Queens in April.
“We have definitely seen an increase in calls from overseas. We have received calls from promoters in Europe and even in Israel,” said Marcus Gavin, the elder of the duo. “The win was a big deal; we wanted it because it allowed us to show many clash fans and selectors that entertainment is key. It’s not only about the dubs you have but the speech is also important and the way you connect with the crowd is important.”
The Gavin brothers are originally from Manchester. They host the popular Irie Fridays show on Irie Jam Radio in Queens, and play house parties and club dates throughout the Big Apple.
Held annually, ‘Sound Fest’ showcases sound systems from around the world, mainly the United States. It also highlights artistes who got their start on sound systems.
This year’s guest artiste is Brigadier Jerry.
Paul says a good showing at the event will further enhance Platinum Kids’ reputation.
