Buju Banton will be released from prison on December 8, 2018.
Since the start of the year there has been numerous reports in the media claiming that the Grammy-winning reggae-singer will be released from prison early. Some reports even claimed he will be sent home as early as this month. These are all false, since the US Federal Bureau of Prisons website firmly indicate his release date as December 8, 2018.
Buju was initially slated for release in January 2019 which would be around the 10-year mark of his sentencing including his stint in prior and during his trial. But in 2015 the reggae star received a small reprieve in his sentencing that saw his stint reduced by one to two months. This means that the Gargamel will be home with his family for Christmas next year.
Buju Banton, born Mark Myrie, was convicted on three counts of cocaine trafficking. A fourth gun related charge was dropped by a federal judge. He was subsequently sentenced to serve 10 years behind bars. Despite numerous failed appeal attempts Buju will end up serving his full sentence except for the small reprieve her was granted.
Unless the US Federal Bureau of Prisons indicate otherwise, his release date is unchanged.
