Jamaica Sprinters Set New World Record for Mixed 4x100m in Gaborone (VIDEO)

Jamaica’s sprint dominance continued on Saturday as a mixed quartet delivered a historic performance at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, setting a new world record in the 4x100m event.

The team of Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson and Tia Clayton clocked an impressive 39.99 seconds in their heat, becoming the first team to break the 40-second barrier in the mixed discipline. Their time erased the previous record of 40.07, which had been set earlier in the same competition by Canada.

Running in the sequence of man, woman, man, woman, the Jamaican unit executed clean baton exchanges throughout. Blake opened strongly before handing over to Tina Clayton, who maintained the pace.

Goldson kept the momentum steady on the third leg, setting up Tia Clayton to anchor the race with authority down the final stretch.

The performance came in the third of three heats and immediately stood out as a benchmark moment in the event’s development. The mixed 4x100m is still a relatively new addition to international athletics, having made its global debut just a year earlier.

Great Britain followed behind in the same heat, finishing second in 40.72, but were well off Jamaica’s record-setting pace.
