Reggae Artiste Jah Cure Gets Extended Prison Time!

Almost a day after posting on social media that he is returning in a year and a couple months’ time, latest reports confirm that Jah Cure’s wait for freedom will be longer. The Amsterdam Court of Appeal has now sentenced him to eight years and four months in connection to the stabbing of a concert promoter in 2021.

The reported ruling, which was handed down on Thursday October 30, extends the artiste’s time behind bars and ends a long legal battle that began over a business dispute in the Dutch capital. Reports indicate that the Never Find singer, clashed with Nicardo “Papa” Blake, a Dutch promoter, about payment for a show.

The disagreement turned violent when Jah cure attacked Blake at Dam Square, inflicting a stab wound in the process.

According to court findings, the case took a sharp turn when new voice messages surfaced during the appeal. In those recordings, the singer allegedly told a friend that he intended to confront Blake and had already picked up a knife. The court concluded that the messages proved the act was premeditated rather than a spontaneous attack.

Initially, in March 2022, Jah Cure was convicted of attempted manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison but was freed and cleared of the charge. However, Dutch prosecutors challenged that outcome, seeking a longer sentence, while his lawyer also filed an appeal in his defense.

After months of hearings, the appellate judges sided with the prosecution, declaring that the evidence supported a deliberate attack. The ruling means that Jah Cure will remain incarcerated in the Netherlands, serving a significantly longer sentence than first imposed.
