13 Dancehallers Who Strongly Supports The JLP Jamaica
With Jamaica’s general election set for Wednesday, September 3, the role of Dancehall entertainers in local politics has once again come to the forefront.
While the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is not traditionally known for having widespread support from the top names in Dancehall, the party does have a handful of artistes who have shown loyalty to the “green team.”
However, when it comes to the People’s National Party (PNP), the list of entertainers publicly aligned with the party is far more extensive.
Yardhype has compiled a list of 13 of the most popular Dancehall artistes who have openly expressed support for the JLP. Their affiliations have been demonstrated through dubplates, interviews, performances at rallies, or simply wearing party-branded apparel.
See list of names below:
- Mr. Vegas
- Valiant
- Alkaline
- Masicka
- Shenseea
- Jahshii
- Jahvillani
- Skillibeng
- Intence
- Khago
- Ishawna
- Pops YG
Among these, Mr. Vegas has been the most visible in recent times, frequently performing at events and actively voicing his support online. Rising star Jahshii has also been consistent in showing his backing for the JLP having performed over the weekend at a JLP rally.
While this list reflects some of Dancehall’s most influential figures, it is believed that other artistes, such as Baby Cham, lean towards the JLP. However, many have chosen not to publicly endorse the party in recent times.
The connection between politics and Dancehall is not new, as artistes often use their platforms to influence and engage with the public. With both parties vying for power, the endorsements of these entertainers could play a role in energizing younger voters and shaping the atmosphere leading into the upcoming elections.
