Embattled Dancehall Artiste Squash Set To Plea Guilty On Gun Charges After Making Deal With Feds

Reports are saying that Dancehall artiste, Squash will no longer face a jury trial in the United States after deciding to change his plea in a federal gun case. The entertainer, whose real name is Andrae Whittaker, is expected to officially enter a guilty plea in court on September 3.

This decision comes just before his trial was set to begin on September 2. The St James native deejay had up until August 26 to plead guilty or face trial. As per reports, he was looking at a sentence of up to 10 years behind bars on each charge if convicted.

In the event he had three or more past convictions, the mandatory sentence would have increased to at least 15 years for each offence.

The case against him stems from an incident in February 2025, when U.S. authorities pulled him over during a traffic stop. During the search, police reportedly found two Glock handguns along with several loaded magazines.

He was later charged with possessing a firearm as a non-citizen and having an illegal machine gun. Before deciding to plead guilty, Squash and his legal team had planned to challenge the charges in court. His lawyers had filed a motion asking the judge to exclude the evidence, claiming it was collected through an unlawful search.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, had requested that additional content, such as messages and videos taken from his phone, be included in the case. They even wanted to use some of his music as part of their argument in court. Reports also state that A judge was expected to make a decision on that request on Tuesday, but that hearing was suddenly called off on Monday.

At that point, Squash’s attorneys informed the court of his intention to plead guilty, which brought the trial preparations to an end. The exact terms of the plea deal have not been revealed to the public.

This is one of Squash’s many multiple woes in the U.S as he had a previous incident with authorities in 2023 after being stopped by immigration officers.

That encounter also led to the discovery of two firearms under similar circumstances. U.S. officials have since claimed that the ‘Ambala’ deejay entered the country illegally in 2021, and he is still facing deportation proceedings related to that earlier case.
