Jamaica’s Olympian Kishane Thompson to Make Indoor Debut in Astana
Jamaica’s Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson is set to begin his 2025 season with his indoor debut at the Astana Indoor Meet for Amin Tuyakov Prizes on January 25. The event marks the first World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting of the year, and fans are eager to see Thompson in action.
The 23-year-old sprinter, who claimed 100m silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics with an impressive 9.79, will compete in the 60m in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Thompson’s Olympic silver medal ended a drought for Jamaica in the men’s 100m, making him the first Jamaican to podium in the event since Usain Bolt’s legendary streak of Olympic victories. However, Thompson narrowly missed gold in Paris, finishing just a thousandth of a second behind Noah Lyles.
After taking time off following the Olympics, the Astana meet will be Thompson’s first race in over four months. He faces strong competition, including Canada’s Andre De Grasse, the Tokyo Olympic 200m champion, who clocked 6.66 in the Astana final last year.
