Vybz Kartel Lawyers Eyes March Deadline For Appeal Verdict
Vybz Kartel appeal verdict could arrive by March per defense attorney Bert Samuels.
This month will mark six months since Vybz Kartel appeal case wraps in Jamaica’s Court of Appeal. Just like the deejay and his fans, his defense lawyers are also anxious to get a verdict from the court. These appeal cases usually take several months and sometimes even over a year to reach a verdict. In November last year, Samuels revealed that the defense presented over six thousand pages of evidence to the court, which means that the judges will have their hands full.
Samuels, who represents Shawn Storm, is eyeing a March deadline for the Appeal Court to return with a verdict. “It’s a new term, and we are hoping that during this term which lasts up to the end of March we will get the judgment,” Samuels said. “So we are anxiously awaiting the judgment in that case, and we’re very very optimistic so let’s see what happens.”
Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were all sentenced to life for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. All four men appealed the 2014 conviction on the grounds that police officers tamper with evidence and intimidate witnesses.
The defense team presented a strong appeal case in the Jamaica Court of Appeal in July of last year. While he awaits the verdict, Vybz Kartel is flooding the airwaves with new music.
