Caribbean-American New York Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, is calling on the Caribbean community to stand up against Donald Trump.

Clarke – the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 25th anniversary celebration of Brooklyn’s Progressive Democrats Political Association (PDPA).

During her address, Clarke – who represents the 9th Congressional District in Brooklyn, said Trump administration’s is “terrorizing” the immigrant community and the U.S. Caribbean community needs to speak up against his new immigration policies.

Clarke said “If we don’t stand up and speak out, our families will be torn apart”. She then told the story of someone calling her  saying their relative was being “shipped to Georgia”, but by the time Clarke connected with Immigration officials, the person was “already on a plane” being deported to his native Trinidad & Tobago.

Clarke furthered declared that her job is to get Trump out of office “as soon as possible” and said “Impeachment is on the way”.

Also at Progressive Democrats Political Association gala, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, honored Yvette Clarke’s mother, Dr. Una S.T. Clarke – who is leader of the organization, with a proclamation for being the first Caribbean-born woman elected to New York City Council.
