Elaine Thompson outclasses 60m field at Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix
Thompson produced a world-leading 6.98 clocking, the eighth-fastest time ever, for the victory to lead home a Jamaica 1-2-3.
Gayon Evans finished second in 7.17, while Christania Williams was third in 7.18.
American Barbara Pierre finished fourth in 7.20.
It was Thompson’s second outing over 60 metres this season as she ran a life-time best 7.02 seconds outdoors at the National Stadium in Kingston at the end of January.
Thompson gained international recognition last year while competing at her first Olympics.
She produced stunning runs to achieve a sprint double in Rio.
She is the first woman to complete the Olympic sprint double since Florence Griffiths-Joyner at the 1988 Seoul Games.
