Dancehall Star Alkaline remains in police custody, after police have wrapped up their questioning

Dancehall star Alkaline, whose given name is Earlan Bartley, remains in police custody as the probe into the murder of Rohan “Head” Morris in St Andrew last month intensifies.

“Police have wrapped up their questioning of Bartley and he remains in custody at this time,” Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the police Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), said on Friday evening.

Bartley’s attorney, Peter Champagnie indicated that he would file to have the entertainer released on Monday.

In an text message sent to Loop News earlier Friday, Champagnie said: “Going to court on Monday if he isn’t released.”

Bartley was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Morris of Three Oaks Garden in St Andrew. Morris was shot more than 15 times by armed thugs at his home in January. Sources say the 28-year-old unemployed man was slaughtered while next to a five year old child believed to be his daughter.

The deejay reported to the Area 4 police headquarters in Kingston at 9:25 am on Thursday, before being transferred to the Criminal Investigation Branch to face more questioning.

The killing of Morris is said to be linked to an ongoing feud between two gangs in the community of Maverley.

“It is believed that (Alkaline) can assist (police) with the investigations,” a news release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force said earlier this week.
