Vybz Kartel Appeal Process Not Yet Started, Is He Giving Up ?
Vybz Kartel has not yet instructed his legal team to start his appeal process, raising questions on whether or not he is giving up.
Reliable sources inside the incarcerated deejay’s camp told Urban Islandz that his appeal docs are still under review and not yet filed with the court of appeal. “There are a lot of documents to go through like boxes of documents so that is mostly what is holding up the process,” sources told us.
A rep for Vybz Kartel told us that he plans to fully go ahead with his appeal because he feels strongly that the justice system failed him. “There were far too much problems with this case that sent an innocent man to prison for life,” his rep said. “The justice system failed them and it just look bad.”
Back in May this year, Kartel’s attorney Tom Tavares-Finson revealed that the transcripts for his appeal are ready. “The transcripts have been reviewed, and we were told that they have been copying and numbering the pages over the last couple of months,” Tavares-Finson said. “As you can well imagine, it is a couple of boxes of transcripts, but we have been informed that within the next week, it will be finished and Vybz Kartel will receive it, and then he can instruct his legal team, whosoever he chooses, to act and start the appeal process.”
Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, along with his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell and two others were sentenced to life in a maximum security prison for their role in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
All four men have maintained their innocence.
