Over 900 Jamaicans deported from various countries since the start of this year

Statistics released from the National Security Ministry has revealed that some 963 Jamaicans have been deported from various countries since the start of this year.

The United States has sent home the most Jamaicans with a figure of 342 while 149 have been deported by the United Kingdom, 130 from Trinidad and Tobago, 94 from Bahamas and 82 from Canada.

Barbados has back 44 Jamaicans, Curacao, 43 and 78 from various other countries which includes Antigua, Aruba, Cayman, Columbia, Germany, Grenada, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, Switzerland, St. Lucia and St Marten.

The figure represents about 10 per cent of the 9,425 Jamaicans that have been deported since 2012.

Jamaicans been deported for immigration reasons, drug offences and crimes including attempted murder and manslaughter, robbery, gun possession, assault/battery/wounding, sexual offences and other crimes

Statistics from the ministry was released days after a protest was staged outside the Jamaican High Commission in London over a decision by the British Government to deport 42 Jamaicans, who made claims that they were tricked and treated in an unjust manner.

The deportees, some carrying their personal belongings in bags and suit cases arrived in Kingston on a chartered flight on Wednesday and were taken to Mobile Reserve, a police unit in Kingston where they were processed and released to relatives.
