Jamaican Athletes Show Deplorable Room Conditions In Rio (VIDEO)
A video released on-lined showed the poor conditions some of Jamaica’s most famed athletes were forced to endure during their stay in Rio, Brazil for the 2016 staging of the Olympics.
Four athletes were assigned to shared a single room, as was the case for Novlene Williams-Mills and Aisha Praught who were seen in a video showing their room and how messy it was.
Buckets, cement and paints were seen on the floor while furniture’s, television and plumbing fixtures were obviously missing from the room at the time of the video beinguploaded.
Team Manager Ludlow Watts said about four of the rooms were not yet ready. “What I think happens is that people are coming in now in droves and because of the pressure onthe systems in terms of the plumbing system and the water system, that’s when they (organisers) are beginning to see that some of the things that they thought were in order are not in order.”
He continued to explain why it was, that Usain Bolt got his own room in Rio while other athletes were forced to share accommodations – “Sometimes you make allowances for superstars but we don’t have the luxury of many people (being) able to get single rooms,” said Watts while being interviewed on Power 106.
