World 2nd Oldest Woman Violet Brown wants two more years
Jamaican supercentenarian Violet Moss Brown has thanked God for long life and expressed that she would love to live for two more years.
The world’s second oldest person, Brown, affectionately called “Aunt V”, sat down with Loop News at her home in Duanvale, Trelawny this week. She is 116 years old.
In the video, watch Brown reflect on life growing up in post-emancipation Jamaica, as the country remained under British rule and the island’s black majority remained oppressed.
“It was like slavery. It was very hard but likkle by likkle we have come up to be a good place,” Brown said.
Declaring that “the best time is now”, Brown said she is enjoying life and is not sitting around waiting to die. She particularly enjoys sitting on her veranda and watching pedestrians and cars pass by.
“Mi nah pray fi dead,” Brown said. “If God gives me more life, I will take it.”
Sitting next to her 95-year-old son, Harold Fairweather, who is believed to be the world’s oldest living child with a parent alive, Brown also reflected on her love for her late husband, who died nearly four decades ago.
Brown, who turned 116 on March 10, is just over three months younger than the world’s oldest person, Italian Emma Morano, who became 116 on November 29 last year.
