Penn Relays: KC equal meet record to take gold in 4×100

Kingston College (KC) produced a meet record-equalling performance to win the High School Boys’ 4×100 Championship of America on Saturday’s third and final day at the 122nd staging of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

The quartet of Shivnarine Smalling, Akeem Bloomfield, Jhevaughn Matherson and Tyreke Bryan clocked 39.63 seconds to equal the meet record set by Calabar High in 2015.

Calabar had to settle for second this time around. The quartet of Xavier Angus, Fabian Hewitt and Michael Stephens, Seanie Selvin finished in 39.89 seconds.

T.C. Williams High School in Virginia clocked 40.46 for third place, while St Jago of Jamaica was fourth in 40.63.

Earlier, Rayan Holmes of Edwin Allen powered Jamaica to the gold medal in the High School Boys’ 400-metre Hurdles Championship.

Holmes clocked 52.47 seconds for the victory.

Rivaldo Leacock of Christ Church in Barbados was second in 52.82, while Jaelen Williams of Virginia-based Phoebus finished third in 53.14.

The KC pair of Sherwayne Allen (54.01) and Orlando Smith (54.18) finished sixth and eight.
