
Penn Relays: Gold for JC in 4×400, gold for St Jago in 4×800
Jamaica College (JC) won the gold medal in the High School Boys’ 4×400 Championship of America on Saturday’s third and final day of the 122nd staging of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The quartet of Maleik Smith, Michael Campbell, Devaughn Baker and Phillip Lemonios completed the course in 3:12.34 to lead home a Jamaica one-two finish in the final event for high schools.
Calabar High, courtesy of a 46.58 anchor leg from Christopher Taylor, finished second in 3:13.09. Anthony Carpenter, Aykeem Francis and Colin Anderson were the other members of the Calabar team.
T.C. Williams High School of Virginia finished third in 3:13.55.
St Jago (3:14.53) and Edwin Allen (3:16.69) finished fifth and sixth, while the other Jamaican school – Kingston College (KC) placed eighth in 3:19.48.
Jamaica also secured a one-two finish in the High School Boys’ 4×800 Championship of America.
St Jago with Eric McKenzie, Joel Jean Pierre, Keenan Lawrence and Leon Clarke clocked 7:33.71 seconds for the gold medal. They finished well ahead of St Elizabeth Technical High School, which completed the distance in 7:35.20.
Green Hope High School of North Carolina finished third in 7:41.01.
KC with Lerone Bowden, Shane Buchanan, Tarees Rhoden and Kristoff Darby completed the distance in 7:45.12 for fifth place, while the other Jamaican schools – JC (7:53.45) and Bellefield (8:01.33) were ninth and 12th.
