Man with cancerous facial tumour grateful despite falling short of target

Friends and family members have rallied together to help a St James man who has been living with an agonising pain caused by a large cancerous tumour which has disfigured his face.

More than 100 people have donated over US$2,916 to help Jermaine Barrett who was diagnosed by doctors at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay with Chondrosarcoma.

Chondrosarcoma is a malignant cancer that results in abnormal bone and cartilage growth.

Though Barrett’s GoFundMe campaign was thousands of dollars away from its US$150K goal, Barrett took the time to thank those who have donated to his cause.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Barrett expressed his gratitude for the verbal and financial support thus far, while appealing to others to help make his goal of a surgery a reality.

Barrett also told supporters that he lead an active social life and was a productive employee prior to the ailment that wrecked his life.

The 26-year-old man believes he may have developed the cancerous tumour after an overseas dentist, who came to Jamaica to offer free services in 2008, extracted one of his teeth.
