Opposition, Jamaica erupts in laughter over Pearnel Charles’ wig in Parliament

Laughter from the Opposition MPs followed Speaker Pearnel Charles as he entered the chambers in his ceremonial wig and gown during Tuesday’s sitting of Parliament at Gordon House.

It was Charles’ first time in the wig since being sworn in as Speaker of the House last month.

“Watch yah. Watch yah,” came the comments from the Opposition MPs as Charles made his way to the Speaker’s chair.

He made no response.

The laughing continued until the opening prayers.

Meanwhile, the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Derrick Kellier was sworn in as Member of Parliament (MP).  He wasn’t present last month to be sworn in due to a magisterial recount in his Southern St James constituency.

Omar Davies wasn’t present to be sworn in.  He had fallen ill after the February 25 General Election
