On Wednesday, Minister of Public Works and Ports Ian Pinard, resigned after allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with a 15-year-old high school girl, surfaced in the media.

Pinard announced his resignation on public radio, after being unreachable for 2 days following the allegations, caused concerns over his whereabouts.  Pinard said he was making the announcement because had a ‘moral and fiduciary duty’ to address the public. He said he made the decision to resign because it would allow him to ‘properly address the allegations and focus on other important personal matters’, without disturbing the government of Dominica’s responsibilities to its citizens.

Minister Ian Pinard’s resignation came just hours after a local businessman was arrested for sexually assaulting the same girl, and an opposition parliamentarian is also accused of sexually abusing her in several separate incidents.

It is being reported that the 15-year-old girl gave police graphic details of her encounters with all three men, and furnished text messages, photos, and videos as proof.

Although he resigned as Public Works Minister, Ian Pinard said he will continue to serve as MP for his constituency. Dominican police have yet to name the other 2 accused men, but say investigations continue.
