Two records in Digicel Grand Prix 100 metres

Two records were broken in the Digicel Grand Prix 100 metres at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Nelda Huggins of St. Jago won the girls’s Class One and Shamkia Burton, running unattached, the Class Two 100 metres events, to establish new marks.

In the Class One 100 metres, Huggins did 11.79 seconds to erase the old mark of 11.84 seconds set by Shawna Anderson of Edwin Allen in 2008. Second was her teammate Shanice Reid, who did 11.91 with third going to Trishawna Crawford of Camperdown, who did 12.18.

Burton dismantled the girls’ 100 metres Class Two mark, as she posted 11.64 seconds to erase the old mark of 11.96 set by Natalliah Whyte of St. Jago, which was set in 2013. Second was Kimone Shaw of St. Jago, who did 11.64 and third was Anna-Kay Allen of St. Catherine High, who did 11.91. All three went inside the old mark.

The boys’ Class One 100 metres was won by Xavior Angus of Calabar who did 10.50 seconds as teammate Fabian Hewitt was second in 10.54 with Couli Graha of Racers Track Club was third in 10.65.

Calabar dominated the boy’s Class Two 100 metres, as the top four places were won by them. Christopher Taylor blazed the track in 10.44 seconds to finish ahead of Tyreke Wilson who did 10.52, Michael Stephens who did 10.56 and Dejour Russell who did 10.61.

The boys’ Class Three was won by Kajae Willias of Papine High in 11.27 with Kahie Francis of Calabar finishing second in 11.51 and Thiea Shea of Wolmer’s Boys’ School in third in 11.61.

Jamaica College’s Justin McDonald was first in the boys’ Class Four 100 metres in 12.20 seconds. Teammate Justyn Birthwright was second in 12.27 and Dante Fullwood of Wolmer’s Boys’ School third in 12.31.

St Jago was first and second in the girls’ Class Three 100 metres with Toni-Reid winning in 11.81 seconds, ahead of Kayla Bonnick who did 12.03. Britany Anderson of Vere was third in 12.09.

The girls Class Four 100 metres was won by Danae Nembhard of St Jago in 12.43 seconds. Teammate Dayshanae Hall was second in 12.47 with Renee-Ashley Jackson, also of St Jago third in 12.49.
