Lanmine rejected at airport after his 40 face piercings set off metal detectors

Fast rising dancehall artist Lanmine got more attention than he was looking for yesterday when he attempted to board a flight to Antigua at the Norman Manley international airport for a promotional performance but was forced to cancel the trip as he could not get through the metal detectors to board the flight because of his multiple face piercings.

“The metal detectors went off like crazy, it cause a big ruption outta the airport, till we haffi just tek way wi self and go back home,” one entourage member said.

Manager Stasha of Stashment Records said that the artiste could not have removed the piercings to board the flight because his face was not fully healed.

“When we reach the airport, we realise that it wasn’t going to work because some of the piercings could not be removed yet because the skin on his face is not fully healed. We just had to postpone the show because to the amount of them we would have to replace with non-metal ones, him skin never heal, and the time for the flight, we wouldn’t make it. Ah just pure excitement gwaan out de!” she said.

When contacted, an expert airport security official suggested: “When you are travelling, especially after the September 11th attacks, it is recommended that one wears nonmetallic jewelry. Quality metal body jewelry is non-ferromagnetic and will not set off the large walk-through metal detectors. However, the hand-held wands are often more sensitive and frequently do sound an alarm when scanning directly over metal body jewellery.”

Lanmine vaulted into the public spotlight this month when stories online revealed he had over 40 new piercings – in his face.

Lanmine is known for singles like Independent Gyal and Its Creeping featuring Fambo, among others. his latest single, Touch Yu Hard, was released a week ago and has generated thousands of views on Facebook and youtube.

“Life is a learning experience, ah just one ah dem ting de. The people dem say ah strictly non-metal piercings mi haffi have in fi go through the metal detectors outta airport so it nah happen like that again. Mi couldn’t get out the metal ones dem in time to catch the flight, so ah next week again,” Lanmine said.
