“Kartel is okay,” says comedic correctional officer

When Loop News jokingly asked a correctional officer who was stationed inside the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre how popular dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel was doing, he had the perfect answer.

“Kartel is quite okay. Three meals a day, no bills to pay. He is quite okay,” the warden explained with a broad smile etched on his face.

Loop News visited the prison to view an exhibition of items produced by inmates under the Department of Correctional Services rehabilitation programme.

Vybz Kartel is currently housed in the facility as he awaits his day in the Appelate Court.

He along with co-accused Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell,  Kahira Jones and Andre St John, were sentenced on April 3 last year for the murder of Clive Lizard’ Williams.

Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 35 years, while others will have to serve 25 years before being eligible for parole.

All four have appealed their sentences.
