Cops in Jamaica to get body cameras soon

With accountability among police officers a sore issue, especially in cases of fatal shootings, Commissioner Dr Carl Williams has announced that the US Government will be donating a cache of body cameras to be worn be cops while on duty.

He was speaking at the handing over ceremony of nine vessels to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Marine Department by the United States Embassy at his office in Kingston on Wednesday.

He said the cameras will go a far way in assisting investigations into allegations of misconduct by members of the force.

“Within the next few months, I will call the members of the media here once again to witness the handing over of body cameras that will be used to ensure that police accountability is boosted and to enhance the human rights record of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF),” Williams said.
