Asafa Powell takes 100m title

Asafa Powell crowned himself king of Jamaica’s sprinting on Friday at the National Senior Championships, securing victory in the 100 metres at National Stadium.

Powell with a slower than usual start, caught early risers Nesta Carter and Nickel Ashmeade at the 30 metres mark. Under pressure from Ashmeade, Powell maintained his form and powered to victory as Ashmeade got home ahead of the fast finishing Kemar Bailey-Cole.

Powell was timed in 9.84 seconds with Ashemeade getting 9.91 with Baile-Cole doing 9.97 as Carter faded into fourth with 9.98.
