Bolt, VCB win in Brazil
Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt was not happy with his execution even though he still won the Mano y Mano 100 metres in Rio, Brazil on Sunday.
Bolt had a sluggish start in rainy conditions in Rio but surged at the end to win in 10.12s ahead of American Ryan Bailey, 10.24.
Brazilian Jose Carlos Moreira was third in 10.51 and Churandy Martina of the Netherlands was fourth in 10.53.
“My start wasn’t very good and that made me pay,” said Bolt afterwards. “But I’m happy to have won and I can’t complain.”
In the women’s challenge, Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown won her first 100m race of the season in 11.04. VCB won easily over the USA’s Carmelita Jeter (11.19), Jamaican Kerron Stewart (11.30) and Brazil’s Antonia Rosa (11.59).
“I’m pleased,” Campbell-Brown said. “Athletes always want to go faster but I understand that it is my first 100m race of the season and it is not a bad way to start.”
