Prime Minister of Jamaica in New York for unveiling of slavery monument

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will join other world leaders and government officials at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York on Wednesday.

The dignitaries will be in New York for the unveiling of the permanent memorial to honour the Victims of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

The day (March 25) has been declared by the UN as International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

Following the unveiling of the memorial, Simpson Miller will participate in a UN General Assembly plenary meeting to commemorate the International Day of Remembrance.

On Thursday, March 26 Simpson Miller will meet and address members of the Jamaican diaspora in New York at a town hall meeting at the St. Georges Episcopal Church Hall.

Simpson Miller will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, AJ Nicholson.

The Prime Minister will return to Jamaica on Saturday, March 28.

During the Prime Minister’s visit to New York, Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change Robert Pickersgill will be in charge of the Government.
