Usain Bolt for Adidas Grand Prix 2015 at the Icahn Stadium in New York
Usain Bolt will this year compete at the Adidas Grand Prix at the Icahn Stadium in New York, the site where he broke the 100-metre world record for the first time (9.72s) in 2008.
The event will be held on June 13. However, it was not announced whether the six-time Olympic champion would be competing in the 100 or 200 metres.
It will also be Bolt’s first appearance on the track in the United States in five years. The last time Bolt competed in the United States was at the Penn Relays in 2010, when he anchored Jamaica to victory before a packed stadium.
Bolt has fond memories of his 2008 exploits in New York.
“No one could ever forget their first world record, and I will never forget the crowd in New York that night,” Bolt said.
“They had to wait for an hour during a thunderstorm delay before our race, and I don’t think a single person left the stadium. They deserved a great performance, and I’m glad I was able to give it to them. I’m looking forward to running in New York again.”
Bolt will open his international season with a 100m in Rio on April 19. He has also announced a 100m race for Paris on July 4 and a 200m in Lausanne on July 9 as he prepares for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China in August.
