A 24-year-old South Florida woman has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison and also ordered to pay over US$132,000 in restoration to lottery scam victims.

Shanice Ethridge reportedly worked with a Jamaica-based fraudster who contacted victims all over the US and falsely told them they had won money in a sweepstakes or lottery.

The victims, mostly seniors, were told they had to send money to Ethridge – to pay bogus fees – before they could collect winnings.

In April 2012, Ethridge was warned that the money she was collecting was of fraudulent means and if she persisted she would face charges. Charges were finally filed against her in October 2012 when she was caught receiving more money.
