Settlement or what – Paul Buchanan to meet with Mavado’s Lawyers on Tuesday

There may be an amicable settlement to the soured land deal between international superstar, Mavado, and developer Paul Buchanan, who is an MP and a member of the ruling People’s National Party.

Tamika Harris, Mavado’s attorney, has already filed the lawsuit in the Supreme Court for damages and breach of contract.

“The papers have served but Paul Buchanan is yet to file a defence. My client, Mr. Brooks just wants Mr. Buchanan to fulfil his end of the contract, he does not want to recover the $20 million, he just wants his title and his building,” Harris told Loop News.

“Mr Buchanan wants to meet with me today as he wants an extension of three months to complete the project. However, I am not eager to meet with him because I have heard these promises before, however, my client may be open to dialogue, so we shall see after today’s meeting.”

Buchanan has told the media that he will be pushing to hand over the title and the four-storey house in Norbrook, St Andrew, to the entertainer within three months’ time. He revealed that the house is almost complete except for the installation of a sewerage system, the construction of a driveway and an incomplete retaining wall.

Buchanan, a developer, is the representative for the vast West Rural St Andrew constituency after uprooting the Jamaica Labour Party’s Andrew Gallimore in the last General Election.

According to Mavado, as part of the agreement, the MP was contracted to construct a townhouse on the property located in Norbrook, St Andrew. However, five years later, Buchanan has failed to hand over a title to Brooks and the townhouse has not been constructed.

Recently, The We The Best singer has instructed his lawyers to go ahead and “aggressively pursue” a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the St Andrew Member of Parliament following the collapsed real estate deal.

“He begged me for more time in November 2013 to handle the business, and now it is 2015, and mi still no get mi money yet after five years. I am from an area that is a majority PNP stronghold, he is a PNP MP, and mi love mi party. I did not want to create any problems for the PNP, but it gone too far now, ah five years since he got the money so I could buy a house for my mother, and mi caan get mi property or mi money,” Mavado said.
