JC defeat Charlie Smith 2-1 to take 2014 Manning Cup title

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College have defended their Manning Cup title defeating Charlie Smith 2-1 in the 2014 final at the National Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Charlie Smith, ending the game with 10 men, were unable to withstand the might of JC who are gunning for four schoolboy football titles this year.

In an evenly contested first half JC came the closer to hitting the back of the net when captain Junior Fleming headed a cross to the far corner, only to be denied by Charlie Smith’s custodian diving full length.

The half ended 0-0.

JC went ahead in the 60th minute when a determined Fleming capitalised on a lapse in the Charlie Smith defence to calmly slot home from a long clearance that bounced by two defenders.

But a persistent Charlie Smith drew level in the 78th with a well taken shot from just outside the 18-yard box.

In the dying minutes of time added on Charlie Smith were reduced to ten men when a player received a second yellow card and was ejected.

The ding dong battle went into extra time with the 1-1 tie at regulation.

The winning goal came from a Raffique Bryan free kick which took a deflection ending in the back of the net in the first half of extra time.

JC have now taken their second schoolboy football title this season having already won the LIME Super Cup. They are also in the Walker Cup final and will play in the Olivier Shield game against the DaCosta Cup winners.
