Jamaican Radio Disc Jock ‘Vibe Master Jerry D’ Part Company With RJR 94FM
RADIO disc jock and self-proclaimed Vibes Master Jerry D has parted company with RJR 94FM.
Jerry D — whose given name is Jerry Davy and host of Vibes 360 — confirmed the separation, which occurred last week Friday.
“There was a difference in perspectives. Like any family, we saw things differently and they had to make a judgement call, and I respect the decision. There is no acrimony between myself and them. In fact, I can’t complain and really just want to thank RJR for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents over the years and to that the listeners and supporters for their goodwill,” said Davy yesterday.
Davy, who filled the 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm slot a year and a half ago following the departure of popular host Miss Kitty, declined to give the Jamaica Observer reasons for his departure.
This is not the first time Davy is parting company with the RJR Group. He made his foray into radio in 1992 as an announcer on Fame FM, he would then do a four-year stint at RJR 94FM which ended in 1998. He then took on the afternoon slot at the then Radio 2, now Hitz 92FM, between 1998 and 2005. Davy would take a hiatus from radio, which saw the ‘Vibesmaster’ being off air for seven and a half years. He then returned to the RJR Group a year and a half amidst much fanfare.
“I believe I was the right man for the job at that time. In my opinion, I came into that situation and built a nice vibe. I thought the progamme was on a decent keep and where it should be, but all the elements have to come together, nevertheless I gave it a good shot. Decisions have to be made and I am fine with that,” said Davy.
The slot is currently filled by Markland ‘Action’ Edwards and Wesley ‘Burgerman’ Burger.
“I am fine with what has transpired and I’m really optimistic about the future,” Davy added.
