Jamaica has stepped up its preparedness for the Ebola virus.
On Tuesday it was announced that the country now has a fully equipped dedicated treatment centre and another is under construction.
Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson, who made the announcement in a statement to Parliament, said an Ebola Control Centre will be established at the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), headquarters.
Travel ban remains
Dr. Ferguson also stated that the travel ban on persons from the worst affected Ebola countries is still in effect. and Jamaicans travelling to those countries will be subject to quarantine on their return to the island.
,sxConcerning surveillance at the ports of entry, he disclosed that the country will soon have 71 hand held thermal sensing units.
The Health Minister acknowledged that there are unofficial points of entry, and the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries will conduct a sensitisation programme with stakeholders in the fishing industry.
