An Austrian national was arrested at the Sangster International Airport, in Montego Bay, St James on Wednesday after a firearm and other illegal weapons were allegedly found in one of his suitcases.

He has been identified as 47-year-old business consultant Thomas Roessler.

The Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force says Roessler has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and is to appear in the Montego Bay Residents Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The police say shortly after his arrival, Roessler reported to officials at the airport that he could not locate one of his suitcases.

According to the police, the suitcase was later located by an airline agent and a search conducted by the Custom Enforcement Team revealed, among other things, a US Army model pistol, four knives including two daggers and a pair of binoculars.
